Best Places To Stay! - South Side (Kihei, Wailea, Makena)
The South Side of Maui has more sun, less wind and rain, and many more beach choices than any other area on Maui. The South Side, has more than 20 excellent, less crowded beaches from which to choose... only receives 5 inches of rain per year... and continues to be a small town atmosphere! In contrast, the West Side, (Lahaina, Ka'anapali, Kahana, Kapalua), has more rain and windy, cloudy weather, especially in the afternoon and sunset times, even in the summer months. In the last few years, the West Side has added dozens of new high rise hotels to the Kahana area alone, many new large shopping malls, thousands of new homes... building up traffic, creating congestion and daily traffic jams. And to the dismay of all wedding professionals on Maui, the West Side, in 2008, removed most of the best wedding beaches from the state's permit list, outlawing weddings on all the Ka'anapali beaches. This policy has forced all of the wedding ceremonies on the West Side onto just a few beaches that are left, such as Kapalua Bay Beach, making it more crowded with multiple weddings at sunset.
We urge you to consider staying on the South Side: However, if you do decide to stay on the West Side, we highly recommend that you have your ceremony on the South Side. Traveling down to the South Side from the West Side, takes just about an hour, maybe a little more, and is a very scenic and beautiful drive down the coast road. Because we care about providing the best possible surroundings and circumstances for our couples, we highly recommend the South Side as the best possible ceremony venue.
